A new server architecture has been deployed. Where we first only had one server to handle everything, we now have multiple servers each with their own responsibility. We’ve made separate servers for alarming, handling sensor data / analysis, sending push and identity.

This should ensure platform stability and make it easier to scale in the future. The biggest advantage is that all sensor data (currently around 800K registrations a day) now go to a separate server relieving other critical parts of workload.

  • 5 in 1 sensor prototype: A prototype has been created to support the Iris IOT 5 in 1 sensor.
  • Tracking of updater versions: The version of the updater app is now tracked on the server to monitor update performance.
  • Improved performance: Performance of fetching data from the servers has been improved.
  • Introduced “Parent” communities: These communities are created for resellers to manage their clients and start video calls through API’s.. Alarms will never be escalated to these communities.
  • Text to speech: Messages spoken out loud are now a little less loud.
  • Updating improvements: When the Genus updates it software, the process doesn’t make a sound anymore. The updating screen is now also in dark mode to avoid waking up people in the middle of the night.
  • Airplane mode: When the Genus is in airplane mode, a warning will now show on the 4G settings page.
  • Night screen: The text on the night screen is now less white reducing light intensity.
  • Business portal: A new check has been added to prevent the creation of customers with the same name.
  • Community portal: All references to a “Frame” have been renamed to “Genus”.

  • Photo cloud synchronisation: When you delete a photo on the Genus the photo will now also be deleted from the Genus cloud. Improving privacy and reducing data stored from the user. All photos deleted in the past will also be deleted from the cloud after the update has been installed. A copy of the photo’s currently active on the Genus will still be stored for backup / transfer purposes.
  • New photo notification sound: When the Genus receives a new photo it now plays the same notification sound as an incoming message.

  • External API: When a 3rd party uses the API to set up a video call, the server will now return a 502 when the Genus is not reachable to provide better feedback for users on other platforms.
  • Deployer app: The app will now also logout from the browser when logging out.
  • Performance improvements: The performance for when the Genus sends an hour of sensor history to the Genus server has been improved.

GC320 camera

The camera of the GC320 is now correctly mirrored in the video web-client so text in the video (e.g. a medicine box) is correctly readable.

Theming

The web-call is now themed to the Genus brand guidelines.

(Community Portal) Improved call timer

The call timer will now only start when the Genus has joined the call. Previously the timer would start immediately falsely indicating that the call already started.

(Community Portal) Switch between speakers / microphones / cameras

It’s now easier to switch between speakers, microphones and cameras. A button will appear when more than one device is detected to easily switch.

(API) It’s now possible to call by serial number

External parties that have an integration with the Genus Platform to start video calls by API can now start a video call by serial number instead of the communityFrameLinkId. This should make administration and setup on the 3rd party side easier. A link to their community is still needed for security purposes. This link will automatically be created by the Deployer App.

(API) Web-call will now show a message when trying to call a Genus that’s offline.

Previously when calling a Genus that’s offline, the call would ring endlessly. Now an error message will be shown on our web-call saying the Genus is offline.

Logging

Extended logging has been added to calling from the Genus and web-client to provide better support / locate issues more easily

(API) Access logs

When a 3rd party requests a video call with a Genus, a log entry will be made with the full request including information about the requester like the IP-address.

  • Retrieving latest sensor data: Retrieving the latest sensor data of a Genus that’s been offline for more than 5 minutes will now instantly give an empty response so the user isn’t shown old false data
  • Retrieving average sensor data: Retrieving the average sensor data of a Genus that’s been offline for more than 7 days will now immediately give an empty response and not search the sensor database to improve performance. This should not have any impact since previously there also wouldn’t be data available.
  • Sensor database: We’ve migrated all sensor data of our Europe server to a new database server and tweaked settings to improve sensor data access speed.
  • Deployer App: When deploying a Genus using the Deployer App, a location in the parent community will be automatically assigned based on the client community that’s deployed for.
  • Genus GPS Button: When resetting a Genus, the linked Genus GPS Buttons will now automatically be unlinked, this could cause “ghost” alarms in the past.
  • GC300 battery: GC300 will now shutdown when the battery is at 12% instead of 5%. This ensures a quick boot-up after the device has turned off.
  • System status: Fixed an issue where the system status would sometimes display texts in the wrong language.
  • Day start: Enabling day start alert does not trigger a day start alert on that same day anymore.
  • License portal: Made the menu items a bit smaller and calmer.
  • License portal: Fixed an issue where the language / clock selection in the community configuration couldn’t be changed.

  • Security: Improved handling / security of access tokens on our main backend server.
  • Performance improvements: A lot of improvements have been made to speed up data processing for the trendanalysis.

  • Alarms: The Genus won’t show the message “Failed to send alarm” when raising the alarm and no phones are connected even though there’s a community connected. This message was false since the alarm would still raise to the community.
  • Homies: The Homies integration has been removed from the Genus platform since Homies stopped as of Jun 27, 2024.

  • Senso8: Prototype has been created for the Iris IOT community.
  • Video: Our previous video call provider is now completely removed from the Genus platform. This also means that Genus frames with a version lower than 2.0.0 won’t be able to make video calls anymore and should be updated. This version was released on Jul 23, 2023 so the impact will be minimal.

  • Temperature analysis: The temperature analysis now uses the person detection algorithm instead of only relying on the PIR sensor.
  • Temperature analysis: Fixed an issue where temperature alerts would be sent multiple times when the Genus server reboots.
  • Push: Push messages to the Genus (e.g. medicine reminders) will now only live for 2 days. This means that if your Genus is offline for 30 days and you turn it on, it’ll only receive the messages of the past 2 days (except for photos / connection requests). This is to avoid having to handle 30 days of medicine reminders.
  • Push: Push messages are now logged with the time it took to reach the Genus to monitor push messages and improve speed in the future.
  • Mantelzorger App: Fixed some issues with the Mantelzorger App integration to prepare for a public release.
  • Demo videos: Demo videos are now removed from the Genus app.

  • Portals: Logos have been updated to match the new Genus house style.
  • Connection check: The Genus will no longer show “No internet connection available” when the Genus has an internet connection but can’t reach the Genus servers. It’ll say “Genus services unavailable” instead.
Feb 12, 2024
  • Fix: After changing the icon of a community or the profile picture of a staff member, the Genus would still show the old pictures until the frame rebooted.
  • Fix: When the Genus failed to download a photo in a photo message from the community portal, in some cases all future messages wouldn’t show until a full reboot.
  • Fix: When tapping multiple times on a “next” button in the intro, before the device had time to respond, the Genus could crash.
  • Fix: When there were missing values in a sensor graph the graph would interpret the value as “0”. Now the graphs won’t show a line for the parts with no data.
  • Fix: Editing a repeating message could change escalation times in some scenarios.
  • Fix: Filters on the user page will now refresh after changing communities.
  • Improvement: When the Genus server is unreachable, the portal will now show a message.
